Bacon Galore: How to Bring This Tasty Treat to the Corporate Catering Table

Posted by on Tuesday, October 14th, 2014 with 10 Comments

When it comes to a healthy lunch, bacon probably isn’t on your short list of top ingredients to add to the menu. However, in moderation this tasty treat isn’t so bad, and it perks up any corporate catering plate! While it’s certainly high in fat, it’s also the right high protein, low carb mix to fill you up and provide energy for hours, which can actually decrease your need for less healthy snacks mid-afternoon. Not only that — bacon is trendy! It’s wrapped around your favorite cuts of beef and pork, it’s a common topping for salads, and it’s even mixed into many chocolate desserts at high-end restaurants.

Bacon also contains an essential nutrient called choline, which can help to improve memory and intelligence in humans — making bacon a great ingredient to include on your next corporate catering menu. But if you’re struggling to come up with unique ways to integrate this delicious meat into your next meal, what are your options? Don’t fret: we’ve compiled six delicious options to help you plan a great meal for breakfast, lunch or dinner that adds a little bacon flavor to the mix.

Bacon Brown Sugar Waffles: When a breakfast meeting is on the agenda, foods that are quick and easy — and don’t leave behind greasy fingerprints on tables and laptops — are just what you’re looking for. These bacon brown sugar waffles are just the ticket! Give them a simple waffle packed with bacon bits and your staff will be surprised and intrigued — not to mention happy they made it into the office early today!

Bacon Mac and Cheese: While it’s certainly not the lightest option available, it’s sure one of the tastiest. Bacon mac and cheese has made a comeback over the past couple of years and has become a comfort food favorite for bacon fiends across the country. Serving  smaller serving sizes of this delicious meal choice next to a healthy entree salad can be a great way to help your staff have a little indulgence without sabotaging their entire diet for the day.

Potato Bacon Cheddar Soup: In search of a healthier option for employees looking to warm up over a chilly lunch hour? This potato bacon cheddar soup is a take on an old favorite that’s sure to be a crowd pleaser. The warm crunch of the bacon balances out the heaviness of the potatoes and brings some staying power (via the goodness of protein) to this yummy meal. It’s the perfect fall dish for your next catered lunch!

Bacon-Wrapped Pork Tenderloin: Sometimes it can feel like you’re ordering the same old entrees for dinners at the office. So switch things up with a tasty bacon wrapped pork tenderloin! Since the sliced tenderloin is wrapped with just one piece of bacon, it’s just the right amount of protein and nutrients to balance out the indulgence of the fat. And the flavor combination is amazing — this is the new piece de resistance of pork dishes.

Stuffed Mushrooms: Put a new twist on this everyday favorite appetizer by adding bacon to the mushroom filling. Not only will it add a new flavor to the menu, the bacon will add a nice crunch to this traditional hors d’oeuvre. Everyone is sure to love it!

Bacon Brussels Sprouts: While Brussels Sprouts on their own aren’t the most appetizing vegetable on everyone’s plate, they certainly have the right mix of vitamins, fiber, protein, and minerals to make them a cruciferous superfood. And mixing cooked Brussels Sprouts with some bacon crumbles can be just the incentive your staff needs to embrace this delicious side. It’s impressive what a little bacon can do to entice the taste buds!

Everything in Moderation

When it comes to bacon, the old saying is certainly true. Integrating this American favorite into your meal choices in small ways can be a great way to indulge without going over the top when it comes to your bacon consumption. And mixing a little bacon into your next corporate catering menu is sure to be a crowd pleaser for your whole team!

Another great recipe with bacon is the Peanut Butter & Bacon Sandwich. Made like a regular PB sanny, but with a couple slices of bacon and (optional) bananas. It may seem like an odd combination, but it’s delicious!

I love bacon, and I love the ideas that were given on this website. I must say, my favorite is the bacon with mac and cheese.

Healthy bacon? Not sure I agree but I really want to agree. More bacon makes work more tolerable.

I agree everything in moderation is key in anything you may eat. I love bacon and would love to learn how to incorporate it into the more meals as an added flavor profile rather than just having it for breakfast. The brussel sprouts with bacon I have made and brought to family holiday gatherings and everyone raved. My only thought is knowing that curing bacon usually consists of many harmful chemicals, would it be wrong not to more so promote using uncured bacon as an alternative to the chemical, nitrate ridden bacon that lines the grocers shelves?

That’s definitely a great point. To really live by a healthier lifestyle, it’s certainly a great choice to go uncured!

Bacon is extremely trendy today, so I cannot disagree that this is a wonderful choice for corporate catering foods. Not only will it delight the palate, these menu items will be a great source of discussion among those enjoying the dishes.
