Corporate Catering and Your Thanksgiving Turkey: The Science Behind Why Your Meal Appears So Tasty

Posted by on Thursday, November 27th, 2014 with 4 Comments

When it comes to today’s celebration, your focus is probably on making sure the food is delicious, that the table is perfectly set, and your guests are having a good time. One thing that you likely won’t have to think about is why your Thanksgiving turkey (and the rest of your delicious spread) looks so yummy. There’s actually a lot of science and research that goes into just that: our visual perception and sensory analysis determine how foods should appear and when different products are at peak freshness and quality.

Special tools, including something called visual spectroscopy, are used to measure the color differences regarding the foods we eat to make them look a whole lot tastier when they show up on our tables, whether it’s a light lunch or a big feast, like Thanksgiving. Because we all are, somewhat unknowingly, judging whether our food is good based on what it looks like, and we tend to associate specific colors with the quality of the foods we buy, food producers have to use the newest technologies to make sure their products are not only acceptable to those of us shopping at the grocery store, but also to the chefs at the restaurants they supply.

Ready to learn more and have something unique to talk about at your Thanksgiving dinner? We’ll tell you all about this fascinating food research below!

Workplace Wellness: A Lunch and Learn to Promote Healthy Opportunities in 2015

Posted by on Thursday, November 20th, 2014 with 2 Comments

As we’re entering the time of year when we all start thinking a little more about our health – namely, the open enrollment period of our health insurance plans – it’s the perfect time to plan a healthy living lunch and learn for your staff. Not only will it give you the opportunity to share how employees can take advantage of the benefits a plan offers, it brings up an opportunity to answer some of the biggest questions the staff has about health care and other benefits offered. Additionally, it’s a good way to start promoting any changes you’ll be making from a wellness perspective with your team, to help them know what to anticipate in the new year.

That might sound like a lot to cover over a one-hour lunch and learn, and depending on the amount of information you plan on presenting, you might need to extend your sessions a bit. For example, you could offer an extended lunch and learn, which would take up an extra hour of your staff’s afternoon, or spread the sessions out over two lunchtime sessions, depending on what works best for your company’s structure. Remember, there’s not a one-size-fits-all option here. Planning the right session for your team is about making the lunch and learn work best for the information you want to get across to your staff and creating the format that works best to keep your business operating at full productivity. And the place to start is by determining what information you plan on presenting within this engaging session for your employees.

Perfect Paella: Bring Some Spanish Flavor into Your Workday

Posted by on Friday, November 14th, 2014 with 10 Comments

Paella is a delicious rice, vegetable and meat dish that originated in Valencia, Spain, during the days that the Moorish Kings were in power. According to legend, it’s a dish that melds two different old cultures: the Romans – who made the special pan within which paella is cooked, and the Arabs – who brought flavorful rice to the table. After royal banquets, servants would mix leftovers in large pots to take home, constituting early versions of this now-famous dish. The recipe was eventually refined and spread throughout the entire country, which created a huge explosion of paella dishes that include a variety of meats, veggies, and flavors that we call get to enjoy today!

There are two reasons why paella makes a great lunchtime meal delivery option for you: first, it’s a naturally balanced meal between the rice, meat, and vegetables that are mixed into the dish. A well-balanced lunch means you’ll get the right combination of food groups to feel full and sated, and be better able to sustain your productivity throughout the rest of your day. Second, the flavor is amazing – and since there are so many different options for how this particular meal can be made, you’ll never feel like you’re getting the same humdrum meal two weeks in a row. Intrigued? Let us tempt your tastebuds – here are three of our favorite Spanish paella dishes you could order in for your office meals today!
